GENERAL ALMAZAN
All the 1,625 thectares hat we currently known as Ecological
Park Chipinque initiated its development by initiative
of the General one Juan Andrew Almazán, who bought
from the family Siller a great extension of land in
a spot of the Sierra Madre Oreintal front al old Valley
of San Pedro.
The General Juan Andrew Almazán born in Olinalá,
Guerrero, in 1891, Was a politician and a militar. When
he was studying medicine in Peubla, he decide to join
to the movement of Francisco I. Madero in the Revolution.
In 1911 it was pronounced against this, and foght whit
the General Emiliano Zapata. Almazán obtained
the degree of general and supported the government of
Victoriano Huerta, proclaimed the Plan of Agua Prieta,
was a leader of military operations in Nuevo León,
and he contended for the Presidency of the Republic
as main opponent of Miguel Ávila Camacho, process
whose result protested and by which violent disturbances
were originated.
Durint his residence in Nuevo León, he built
the military city and a road cartdriver to Chipinque,
with what initiated the development of this spot. It
was in the decade of the years 30, when the General
Almazán sent to build a bridge on the dry river
Santa Catarina crossing the Loma larga to the highway
to Chipinque (now Ave. Manuel Gómez Morín).
The construcitions works was on charge of the general
Rodolfo Herrero. BothBoth works constituted the south
axis of the connection formed in a roundabout of the
one that left: al this the Av. Hidalgo, al north it
Calzada Libertad (now Dr. José Eleuterio González)
and al western the road of San Jerónimo (now
named whit the same name). That crossing of roads is
at present the road complex " Gonzalitos".
In September of 1935, were inaugurated the bridge and
the highway to Chipinque, the traffic of vehicles was
opened at 10 o'clock at night, being the General Almazán
who passed first aboard his car, the morning one he
said "El Porvenir". Shortly after the highway
was expanded and paved, its reinauguración was
in Marchof 1936.
The plateau of Chipinque is a terrace of the mountain
range, at 1,270 meters above sea level. There it was
built for mandate of the General one Almazán,
a magnificent building for restaurant, that was called
"The Café of the Mountain", but had
to be closed for non profits on December 31, 1936. Nevertheless,
this quick place became an attraction fot the tourim.
In the botton of the Sierra Madre Oriental, in the
called spot Norato or Honorato, the General Almazán
planned the Veraniega de Olinalá colony, in memory
of its hometown, Olinalá, Guerrero. In the middle
of January of 1936, invited some important people of
the city of Monterrey, and show them them the first
six "chalets" built.
In the same year of 1936, the General Almazán
brought to light two projects: the construction of a
sanitarium for tuberculosos in "The pine Forest"
(before called The Pinal) and a school camp on the Mesa
de Palmillas, both places in the Sierra Madre Oriental,
the projects of the general were ambitious, but these
they were not carried out. The general one Juan Andrew
Almazán, after residing some years in the United
States of North America, Panama and Cuba, returned to
Mexico City where he died in 1965.
