BURNED AREAS IN CHIPINQUE ECOLOGIC PARK
On April 10, 1998, a forest fire started being completely
extinguished by the 25 of the same month, and according
to studies carried out by personnel from the Universidad
Autónoma de Nuevo León, there were around
500 hectares affected classified as:
- 100 high risk hectares (treetop fire)
- 150 medium risk hectares (partial loss of vegetable
coverage)
- 250 low risk hectares (loss of herbaceous layer
due to superficial fire)
- Afterward and once the areas were evaluated to
prevent the loss of land, the following activities
were carried out:
- Construction of natural barriers.
- Construction of artificial barriers using wire
mesh, rocks and pieces of wood.
- Planting native herbaceous and grain seeds.
- Intensive pruning of evergreen oak buds.
- Planting native conifers under strict supervision
standards, in each and every one of the affected
areas.
By December 2002, there were more than 100,000 (Pinus
pseudostrobus) pine trees planted having a successful
survival of 80%; their current growth is up to 1.50 m.
tall.
